Podium finish and setbacks for W&S Motorsport in the Nürburgring Endurance Series

Ofterdingen/Nürburg: At the 45th RCM DMV Grenzlandrennen, the fourth round of the NLS season, W&S Motorsport started with four Porsche cars. The team was happy about a podium finish in class V5 and points in Cup 3, but also had to cope with setbacks in the championship for two cars due to an accident and technical problems.

The AVIA racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 992 #120, entered by Daniel Blickle, Tim Scheerbarth and David Jahn, started the four-hour race from a promising 20th place overall in the field of 120 competitors. Scheerbarth mastered the starting phase brilliantly and gained a few positions. But before the first planned fuel stop, he reported problems with the steering and had to come into the pits. After a ten-minute repair, David Jahn went back into the racing action and drove fast laps. Daniel Blickle continued the good pace, and the trio finished the race in 25th place overall, gaining further valuable experience with the car.

Marius Rauer, Daniel Bohr and Sebastien Vittel in the AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #960 qualified for the second row of the grid in the Cup 3 class of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring. The three of them managed this position with 14 class opponents. The AVIA Cayman crossed the finish line in fourth place and won the AM classification of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring.

In the cockpit of the Vöhringer Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #961 Jürgen Vöhringer and René Höber shared the work at the wheel. Starting driver Höber held his ground calmly from the midfield and drove constant lap times. Shortly after the first hour of racing, an overtaking manoeuvre in the Pflanzgarten section resulted in contact with a class rival and the Vöhringer Cayman crashed heavily. Fortunately, Höber was able to leave the car on his own with only minor injuries and a scare.

Kevin Rembert, Niclas Wiedmann and Dirk Biermann in the close-to-production Porsche Cayman V5 #460 had an outstanding race. Starting from second place in the V5 class, all three drove without any mistakes and thanks to the perfect strategy of the team, this performance was rewarded with second position and a spot on the podium.

Quotes after the race

Patrick Wagner, Team Principal W&S Motorsport: "With two cars the race went really well. The fourth place of the AVIA Cayman and of course the second place of the V5 Cayman are super results we are very happy about. With the Cup 2 Porsche there were problems with the steering, which we now have to analyse. Nevertheless, the boys were super-fast and without the repair a top result would have been possible. René's accident was very bad, but luckily he got away from it okay. I think we'll have the Vöhringer Cayman ready again by the 6-hour race and then we'll be attacking with four cars again."

David Jahn, Driver #120: "It was a good debut on the Nordschleife for me. After five years of abstinence in endurance racing, I quickly got to grips again after a short period of acclimatisation. We still have a bit of setup work ahead of us to further optimise the Cup Porsche. But there are still five races to go and if we have the necessary tweaks, we can definitely attack and be among the front runners. I feel very comfortable in the AVIA W&S Motorsport team and get on great with my two driver colleagues, which is an ideal basis for the future."

Marius Rauer, Driver #960: "I am very satisfied with NLS 4. I started the race from fourth place and was able to manage this until the driver change. My teammates also held the position consistently and we finished a turbulent race in fourth place without any mistakes or penalties. Perfect job also from the team on the stops and strategy, I think a progress from race to race is visible."

Kevin Rembert, Driver #460: "A really strong race from all of us. We delivered a consistent pace, didn't let anything go wrong and came through confidently as a result. You can't do much better than that and a well-deserved second place for W&S Motorsport."

In less than 14 days, the action continues Saturday 9 July 2022 with the ROWE 6 Hours ADAC Ruhr Cup Race, the fifth round of the season in the Nürburgring Endurance Series.
